Power-Hungry Leadership Doesn’t Work
If you get your way, not the people you lead, why should you care?
Sometimes there’s a euphoric overlap between the thrill of victory and the exhale from those you’re asking to follow you, but you can save yourself and them a lot of disappointment if you’d lower your expectations.
You got your way, but God didn’t. You value power and control. He values humility, love, repentance and forgiveness.
In the long run, all you’ve done is put off the inevitable. What you need isn’t getting your way, it’s getting healthy. The only path is to submit to the love of God and others as they tell you the truth about yourself so you can grow past your power hunger (and the pathologies that will ultimately undermine your power). Day by day, that long long run will become a short path to disaster.
The disaster of being found out.
Until you learn to live and lead with nothing hidden you’re living in a dangerous place.
