Recentered Recommendations

In addition to our materials, courses, and podcast, we want to share some of our favorite resources for grace-based Christian learning and growth. These are sources we recommend to church leaders and lay people alike. We hope you'll be as blessed by them as we have been.

Books

This masterpiece profoundly shares God's grace, making it an ideal first read for those new to Christ's awesome grace. There are paragraphs in this book that moved me to tears over God’s love for me.

Inside Out

This essential book helped shape my own journey with Jesus, reinforcing my identity in Christ and new life as a believer. I encourage every Christian to read it.

Another lifelong friend and Recentered Group board member, Dave Burchett, shares lessons on trusting our Master through his dogs. It's a wonderful, whimsical, and encouraging book about trusting our Great Shepherd.

Henri Nouwen’s beautiful letters to his teenage nephew, struggling with faith, offer profound comfort, and I recommend this book to anyone who has lost faith in the church or has drifted from Jesus.

One of Christianity's freshest voices on grace, my friend David Zahl, offers practical applications of God’s grace amidst life's pressures. It is my new go-to book for discipleship.

A dear friend, John Lynch, reminds us that nothing can separate us from God's love in Christ. This book is for anyone who has doubted their standing with God after dark or sinful days.

Written from Nouwen's secret journal during a dark time, this book offers solace and reconnection with Jesus during tough times. Hardly a week goes by that I don’t meditate on one of the chapters.

The Soul of Shame

Dr. Curt Thompson posits that shame is the enemy's primary tool to separate us from God's love. This is one of the most important books I’ve read, and I have used it to disciple those who feel they can never measure up.

The Training of the Twelve

This dense yet spectacular classic is considered the best book on discipleship, serving as a vital resource for discipling men and building disciple-making cultures for over forty years.

Millions have found this bestseller to teach or remind them of the Father’s unconditional love, deepening their assurance of God’s unchanging affection. I’ve given this book to believers in all stages of growth.

Written by a lifelong friend, Kevin Butcher shares his journey of returning to God's love after ministry pressures. With compelling stories, it’s an excellent read for discouraged souls.

Dr. Charles Bing has been a warrior for Grace, partnering with Ed since 1989 in this movement that defends the original gospel and teaches the grace of God in truth. In his podcast, he explains deep issues in ways that invite readers to breathe deeply in grace.

Podcasts

We love this bi-weekly podcast hosted by RJ Heijmen, Sarah Condon, and David Zahl, brought to you by Mockingbird Ministries. It aims to connect the Christian faith with everyday life in fresh, down-to-earth ways.

Ed’s friend and Grace Life Ministries founder Charlie Bing hosts a weekly podcast where he publishes grace-based sermons and messages. Ed has been a guest on the show multiple times.

From Dallas Theological Seminary, The Table is a weekly podcast on topics related to God, Christianity, and cultural engagement, brought to you by The Hendricks Center.

This podcast allows listeners to pose questions to NT (Tom) Wright, one of the world’s leading New Testament scholars and author of numerous theological books, making him one of my favorite and most dependable resources.

Hosted by Dr. Paul Weaver, this podcast features conversations with Bible scholars and expositors on all things Bible and Theology. Ed has had the privilege of being a guest on the show.

This podcast, hosted by the director of Christianity Today's Public Theology Project and Editor-in-Chief, talks about the latest books, cultural conversations, and pressing ethical questions that point us toward the kingdom of Christ.

Ministries

This ministry exemplifies grace, mercy, and God's love in action. They were instrumental in guiding the Church of the Open Door toward health by focusing on relationships built on grace and trust.

Launched by my friend Kevin Butcher, this ministry helps wounded pastors and leaders reconnect with God's healing love in Christ, mirroring the passion of the Recentered Group.

This refreshing organization connects Christian faith, lived solely by grace, with everyday life realities. Its emphasis on God’s grace in the real world is unique, and their message is one we all need to hear every day.

The original and most current source for Dr. Thomas L. Constable’s Expository Notes, Sonic Light offers popular Bible Study Notes known worldwide and translated into many languages. Dr. Constable was one of my favorite professors at Dallas Theological Seminary.

Along with Sonic Light, this is my primary resource for Bible Study. It is an invaluable and dependable source for every Christian, providing the NET Bible translation that Ed has used for years for his most serious study.

My good friend, Charlie Bing, is a champion for God's grace against performance Christianity. Grace Life Ministries offers invaluable resources—podcasts, books, and articles—that strengthen believers' understanding of the freeness of God’s grace in Christ.

Ed serves on the board of FGA, a ministry dedicated to conferences, articles, and teaching that protects the original gospel, which affirms that Christian life is by grace, through faith, apart from works. We’d love for you to join us at a conference.

Ed is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, which cultivates leaders who teach truth and love well. Their ministry also offers free online courses, an exciting resource for believers worldwide.

Ed has worked closely with GSOT, trusting their biblically accurate, grace-filled ministry. GSOT has a significant online presence and offers various degree programs for Christian leaders.
